| Following Through November 2002 December 4th 2002 It’s an ideal day for writing as snow and ice fall out of a perfect grey sky in Asheville. November came and went in a constant flow of motion. The entire month was spent with the activity and details associated with getting a new CD out into the world. If I wasn’t driving to a concert, I was sitting somewhere stuffing padded envelopes and sending CD’s out to people. The concerts were fantastic. My core of faithful fans in New England came out to visit and root me on. Especially good was my band gig at the Whaling Museum Theater in New Bedford, MA. I am so accustomed to performing solo that to add three other musicians to the mix on a stage in a beautiful theater made for an incredible experience. We were able to play the arrangements just like we recorded them. We had a standing ovation, and I can safely say it was the gig of the year. There is a fresh surge of energy that comes with a new release. People say, “Ah, so that’s what you’ve been up to all this time.” It’s as if a veil drops and folks find you are reinvented. It’s a make over of sorts, and a time of new hope just when things feel like they’re getting stagnant. I’m finally able to send people home with the songs I’ve been singing. Coming out with a new recording is also a tremendous way of clearing the proverbial slate. Now that this music is out into the world I can begin looking at what I will do next. Nature abhors a vacuum, so I need only wait with a sense of anticipation to see what new music comes to fill the space. I find that I am ripe for becoming present with where I live. My partner Sue is coming to live in Asheville, and we will establish a certain creative focus. And as I’ve written before, there is an amazing musical community in Asheville I am looking forward to being a part of. Meanwhile, I really am still enjoying singing songs like Avenue of the Saints, What Would Woody Do, and Talking Ditch Weed. It’s like a following through with this new album out. The songs take on yet a deeper and more profound significance. Ultimately, I’m very proud of this recording and I’m just savoring its sound. I hope you do not hesitate and indulge yourself to get a copy. Saying this really comes from a place of wanting to share what I’ve done and make a trade with you. And of course, music really is the perfect gift for the season. Don’t you think? I would love to hear from you in my guestbook. Let me know what you think of the new CD. Most of all I wish you peace and safe travels throughout December whilst visiting friends and family. Lot’s of love - Dana |
